PHOTOS: The Iconic Voyage of the Little Mermaid Marquee Has Been Removed
For over 28 years, Voyage of the Little Mermaid was a staple of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Originally opening on January 7, 1992, the Broadway-style retelling of Disney’s The Little Mermaid entertained and enthralled generations of fans with its storytelling and charm.
Even as more prominent attractions, such as the Studio Backlot Tour and the Great Movie Ride, closed, the attraction continued on. Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

While Voyage of the Little Mermaid closed with the rest of Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the onset of the pandemic, the attraction would never reopen.
‘The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure’
Subsequently, in December 2023, Disney announced that a new Little Mermaid show was being developed for Hollywood Studios.
Titled The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure, the new production will feature stunning new set pieces, advanced puppets, and cutting-edge special effects to bring Ariel’s story to life.

While the new Little Mermaid show was initially expected to open in 2024, Disney announced last October that the attraction would not be ready until 2025.
“As we continue to look forward to ‘The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure’ at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we are taking the next steps and filing permits for an all-new marquee,” Disney stated.
“Work on the exterior of the building will begin soon, in preparation for the premiere of this fully reimagined show in summer 2025. We look forward to sharing more details on this exciting new experience soon.”

While Disney quickly filed the aforementioned permits, we have not seen any noticeable progress on the project over the last couple of months—that is, until today.
The Iconic Voyage of the Little Mermaid Marquee Has Been Removed
When visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios this morning, we were surprised to see that the Voyage of the Little Mermaid marquee had been removed.
The giant sign was one of the most recognizable Disney entrance signs, welcoming guests into the theater since 1992.

As you can see, the flat Voyage of the Little Mermaid sign remains in place. The advertisements also still hang on the side of the building.
The marquee, however, is gone.
When Will ‘The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure’ Open
Disney has yet to announce an official opening date for The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure. They did, however, tease that the new show will debut this summer.
Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long, and Hollywood Studios will once again be home to a Little Mermaid stage show.
