Screen Door General Store Closes as Refurbishment of the Disney’s BoardWalk Resort Shops Begins
Over the past couple of years, change has been a constant at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort.
Between the closure of the Big River Grille and the opening of The Cake Bake Shop and Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs, BoardWalk has slowly but surely been radically transformed.
Just when it looked like the resort had finally reached a state of stasis, another major project has kicked off.
The Refurbishment of BoardWalks’s Shops Has Begun
Over the next three months, Disney will systematically refurbish the shops at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort. During that time, two merchandise locations will remain open while the third is renovated.

The first shop to close is the Screen Door General Store, which is now shuttered.
During the refurbishment, the neighboring Disney’s Character Carnival and Thimbles & Threads will remain open and operational, providing all your Disney needs.
A sign in front of the shop entrance reads, “This merchandise location is open during refurbishment. Please utilize alternate entrances at this time,” with an arrow pointing guests to the open shops.
Inside, construction walls now block off Screen Door General Store.
When work on the store concludes, Disney will move on to Character Carnival. It looks like most if not all, merchandise will be available.
So, if you plan on staying at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort, be aware. While the refurbishment should not drastically impact your vacation, you could hear some construction while staying at Disney’s lakeside resort.
