PHOTOS: Another Crane Arrives in Magic Kingdom as the Astro Orbiter Refurbishment Continues
Unlike any other year in recent memory, 2025 will be a year of transition and change for Walt Disney World.
Looking at the resort’s landscape, every park will soon house a significant construction project. Disney’s Animal Kingdom got the ball rolling late last week with the closure of Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama.
At EPCOT, the construction on Test Track 3.0 continues, and now The Seas With Nemo and Friends is being refurbished. Meanwhile, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is currently working on Disney Villains Unfairly Ever After, and Muppet Courtyard will soon be demolished to make way for Monstropolis.
Finally, there is Magic Kingdom.
Work is expected to begin this year on the demolition of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island to make way for a new Cars land. Additionally, Big Thunder Mountain has closed for a year-long refurbishment, and a large crane now looms over Frontierland.
Another Crane Arrives at Magic Kingdom
Speaking of cranes, when visiting Magic Kingdom today, we were startled to see that another one has arrived in Tomorrowland!
Unlike its Frontierland counterpart, the Tomorrowland crane has not been extended and is instead located behind a construction wall.
The machinery is in place as part of the ongoing refurbishment of Astro Orbiter.
Disney has not revealed what, if any, changes will be made to the Tomorrowland icon. All we know is that the attraction closed on January 13 and is expected to reopen this summer.
Astro Orbiter sits high above Tomorrowland, so the need for a crane is unsurprising. However, guests visiting Magic Kingdom should be aware.
There is currently a lot of construction going on, and Tomorrowland may not look as aesthetically pleasing as it usually does.
