National Geographic Expeditions Will Take Travelers to the Heart of Southern Africa Beginning Next Year
Beginning next year, travelers can visit the heart of Southern Africa as part of a brand-new itinerary from National Geographic Expeditions.
The nine-day curated expedition will immerse travelers in the awe-inspiring landscapes and rich cultures of South Africa and Zambia. Along the way, you will learn about the local traditions, safari on the savanna, and experience the majesty of Victoria Falls.

Here is what the itinerary includes.
First Stop Cape Town
The expedition will start with two days in Cape Town, where travelers will gain a deeper understanding of South Africa’s past through “immersive storytelling by local experts and guides.”

Along the way, they will take a cable car to the top of Table Mountain for a 360-degree view of the Cape Fold Mountains, Cape Town, and the Atlantic Ocean. Other stops include a trip to the Bo-Japp neighborhood, where travelers will enjoy local cuisine and visit Company Gardens.
They will also stop at the District Six Museum, which highlights the impact of Apartheid on South Africa.
Boulders Penguin Colony
South Africa is known for its vast safaris and unique wildlife, and that includes penguins.

While exploring Cape Town, travelers will visit the Boulders Penguin Colony, home to more than 2,200 endangered African penguins.
Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve
On the latest National Geographic Expedition, travelers will spend three nights at the Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve within the Greater Kruger National Park.

Under the expert guidance of rangers and guides, travelers will be led on a quest to spot the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, African elephant, Cape buffalo, and rhinoceros) and nearly 1,000 other species!
See Victoria Falls
Travelers will also be able to savor the breathtaking beauty of Victoria Falls, the world’s largest curtain of falling water.

Stretching more than 5,600 feet wide with an average flow of 14 million gallons of water per minute, Victoria Falls is an unforgettable sight.
Visit Mukuni
Last but certainly not least, the expedition will take travelers to the working village of Mukuni, where the Leya people have been practicing their customes since the 13th century.
