Here’s the Theme Park Injury Report for Q4 2024
Injuries can happen anywhere at any time, and I speak from experience here.
I’m the proverbial bull in the China shop, and the broken glass seemingly targets me.
I’ve suffered more than a few mishaps at theme parks, including one incident at Cedar Point where I almost got tossed from a moving roller coaster.
So, I try to be Zen whenever I report on Florida’s quarterly MOU Exempt Facilities Report.

Central Florida Tourism Oversight District
The nondescript name hides the reality of what this report entails.
It’s a list of all the accidents at Florida’s rainmaking industry: theme parks.

I was at Walt Disney World during this quarter, and I’m being completely transparent when I say my worst fear was appearing on this list.
While I was fortunate, a handful of tourists weren’t so lucky.
Here’s the theme park injury report for the fourth quarter of 2024.
About the Report

Universal
You should understand two things about the MOU Exempt Facilities Report.
The first is that the theme parks self-report their own incidents, which makes them a bit unreliable.

Disney vs Epic Universe
Think about all the times in your professional career you’ve witnessed your business be a bit shady with the truth.
Theme parks are no different, especially one of Disney’s competitors.

This theme park I won’t name once listed an incident as foot pain when what they meant to say was “shattered foot.”
Similarly, they described an injury that led to paralysis as back pain.

Walt Disney Company
So, anyone who reports on the MOU learns to be a bit cynical and mistrustful of the information.
The other thing you should know is that Disney is better in the area of transparency.

Cinderella Castle
No, the company doesn’t go out of its way to detail incidents, as lawyers would hold the information against Disney.
However, when Disney lists an injury, you can typically intuit what happened.

Frozen Holiday Surprise
Also – and I’m so thankful to say this – most incidents fall into the categories of nausea and dizziness.
Given that tens of millions of people visit Walt Disney World each year, that’s a miraculous thing to say.

Main Street, U.S.A.
To a larger point, this reality is indicative that Disney’s safety and precautionary methods work.
So, while there’s a certain amount of rubbernecking involved in reading this report each quarter, you can still feel good about Disney.
This company truly is the gold standard in theme park safety.

During the most recent quarter, here are the reported incidents at Walt Disney World:

About the Incidents

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
So, that’s a total of six incidents at Walt Disney World during the final three months of 2024, which averages to two per month.
When you think about the sheer volume of people visiting the parks, it’s almost incomprehensible how safe Disney is.
Two of these incidents involved hip injuries, and both involved guests of retirement age.
That’s more a reality of life than anything about Disney safety measures.

To a larger point, I don’t think any of us would ever feel likely to get injured on The Little Mermaid or the Prince Charming carousel.
That’s the quirky part of these incident reports. Weird stuff can happen anywhere. All it takes is one misstep.

Meanwhile, the other four incidents here are more conventional in nature.
Roller coasters can get to the best of us at times. When you do feel it as you exit the ride, the sensation comes in multiple forms.
Those include nausea, dizziness, and, yes, sometimes chest pain.
Four different guests experienced such symptoms after experiencing Disney’s various thrill rides.

Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks crowds
Still, this was Disney’s busy season. So, a lack of serious incidents is welcome news for park officials.

Standby and Express Lines
You’ll notice that Universal, which claims significantly less attendance than Disney, had more incidents this past quarter.
However, all the incidents appear to be similar in nature, although I’m not quite sure what “flank pain” is in this context.

Universal Orlando Resort
If I were guessing, someone may have passed a kidney stone on Revenge of the Mummy, which sounds…well, memorable.
Anyway, there’s the list for this quarter! Let’s hope the current quarter proves equally uneventful.
