‘Moana 2’ Has Another Strong Weekend; Is Now Closing in on $1 Billion
Moana 2 had another strong weekend at the box office as the Disney blockbuster sailed through its eighth weekend in theaters.

Looking ahead, Moana 2 should cross the $1 billion threshold by the end of next week, giving Disney its third billion-dollar movie of 2024.
Smooth Sailing For ‘Moana 2’
Debuting in theaters on November 27, 2024, Moana 2 got off to a historic start at the box office. The film quickly delivered the second-best domestic day of 2024, the best Thanksgiving Day ever, and the best Black Friday. By the time the dust had settled, Moana 2 owned the title for best five-day release of the year. Since that time, the film kept the momentum going and has had an extended run.

Following the disappointing releases of 2022’s Strange World and 2023’s Wish, Disney needed Moana 2 to be a Thanksgiving hit. Thankfully, the film was delivered.
A Historic Year For Disney
Looking at 2024 as a whole, Disney released the three highest-grossing films of the year, Inside Out 2, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Moana 2. When the dust settles, the trio of Disney blockbusters will be the only films released last year to cross $1 billion. After a disappointing 2023, Disney returned to form last year and reigned supreme at the box office.

As the new year dawns, Disney is still reaping the rewards of 2024. Now, the studio will look to keep the momentum going as its next slate of films heads to theaters.
