Former Walt Disney World Employee Pleads Guilty to Hacking Menu System
A former Walt Disney World employee has pled guilty to hacking into the company’s menu creation program to change prices, add profanity, and alter allergen information on resort menus.
In June 2024, Michael Scheuer was fired from The Walt Disney Company, where he worked as a menu production manager. In his role, Scheuer was tasked with publishing the menus for Disney’s parks and resorts.

After his termination, Scheuer continued to access the company’s menu software, making vulgar changes and altering the information.
New court filings revealed that he renamed wine regions after recent mass shootings, added a swastika on a menu, and changed the menus’ QR codes to redirect guests to boycott.israel.org.

In October 2024, Federal agents seized Scheuer’s computers in relation to the hack. At the time, he denied any wrongdoing, claiming that Disney was framing him “because they were worried about him and the conditions under which he was terminated.”
Scheuer Pleads Guilty
Three months later, Scheuer has pled guilty to aggravated identity theft and “transmitting a program, information, code and command to intentionally cause damage without authorization to a protected computer that caused at least $5,000 in damages in a year.”

“Mr. Scheuer is prepared to accept responsibility for his conduct. Unfortunately, he has mental health issues that were exacerbated when Disney fired him upon his return from paternity leave. No one was ever at risk of injury, and he is deeply remorseful for what happened,” Scheuer’s lawyer, David Haas, told Court Watch.
According to Florida Politics, no sentencing date has been set for Scheuer.
