As Mufasa: The Lion King continues to roar at the box office, Disney is starting to look ahead to their next live-action remake.
That distinction will fall to Snow White, which will hit theaters on March 21, 2025. The film stars Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, and Andrew Burnap, and will be a modern retelling of the Disney animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Early Controversy
The production of Snow White has been steeped in controversy since the film was announced at the 2022 D23 Expo.
The trouble began when actor Peter Dinklage accused Snow White of being a “backward story” due to its depiction of dwarfism.

In response to these accusations, Disney released a statement announcing that it would be “reimagining the dwarfs to avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original film.”
The studio’s response drew backlash from fans of the animated film and numerous other actors with dwarfism, who felt that Dinklage’s comments did not represent the entire community’s perspective.

As that story subsided, Snow White found itself again steeped in controversy when star Rachel Zegler criticized the original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Looking Ahead
With just months to go until Snow White hits theaters, the focus has finally shifted to the movie itself. Over the past couple of weeks, Disney has released a new trailer for the film and previewed its standout song, “Waiting on a Wish.”

The relationship between the Evil Queen and Snow White was previewed in the film’s trailer. It looks like the two will battle for the fate of their kingdom.
Snow White will hit theaters on March 21.
