Walt Disney Studios Closes Due to California Wildfires
For days, wildfires have ravaged California, causing chaos and destruction across the southern part of the state.
The blaze has tragically left five people dead, 70,000 residents evacuated, and over 1,300 structures destroyed. Efforts to contain the fire are still underway.
Yesterday, Bob Iger shared his condolences, saying, “My heart goes out to everyone who has lost homes and businesses, and to all those whose lives have been impacted, including thousands of Disney employees.”
Disney Legend Joe Rohde also commented on the wildfires, sharing his heartfelt sympathies — and his heart-wrenching personal story — through an Instagram post.
Now, as five fires continue to spread across the Los Angeles area, Walt Disney Studios has closed, pausing operations until further notice.
California Wildfires Impacts Walt Disney Studios
As of today, devastating wildfires continue to burn across the region. Emergency services are working tirelessly to fight fires in Palisades, Eaton, and Sunset, where the blaze broke out in the Runyon Canyon section of the Hollywood Hills last night.
Located in Burbank, California, Walt Disney Studios is situated centrally between these three major fires.
As such, the studios have closed today — along with nearby Universal Studios and Warner Bros. Studios. Productions of films and television shows on these lots are currently paused.
Meanwhile, many Disney fans have also expressed concern about the fire’s potential effects on Disneyland Resort.
Located in Anaheim, California, Disneyland Resort is located roughly 30 miles from the wildfire’s current location.
At this time, Disneyland Resort continues to operate as normal.
