UPDATE: Track Removal Begins at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom
Two days after the attraction closed for a year-long refurbishment, it is clear that Disney is wasting no time starting construction at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
As a quick recap, Thunder Mountain officially closed on January 6, with the expectation that the attraction will remain shuttered until 2026.
While Disney has not given any details on what the refurbishment will entail, the hope is that the Magic Kingdom will finally get the Thunder Mountian dynamite finale that the other versions of the attraction have.
Construction Got Underway Quickly
Even before the attraction closed, it was clear that Disney was itchy to get the project underway. Construction equipment, including a large crane, has loomed over Frontierland in preparation.
As soon as the attraction closed, construction walls arose, and work began in earnest.
Now, two days later, we have another update.

According to reporter Scott Gustin, construction crews are already on sight and dismantling Thunder Mountain’s track.

While the update does not provide any real insight into what the refurbishment will entail, it does show that Disney does not want to waste any time. By the look of things, Imagineers want to get the most out of their one-year window.
