‘Star Wars’ Actor Angus MacInnes Has Passed Away at 77
Actor Angus MacInnes, who portrayed Gold Leader Jon “Dutch” Vander in Star Wars: A New Hope, has passed away. He was 77.
Born October 27, 1947, MacInness began his acting career in 1975 with a small role in Rollerball.
Two years later, the actor would be introduced to millions of fans worldwide when he portrayed Jon “Dutch” Vander, leader of the Gold Squadron in A New Hope.
Following his appearance in Star Wars, MacInnes had a prolific career that lasted for the next 40 years. His other credits include Captain Phillips, Hellboy, and also Eyes Wide Shut.
In 2016, he reprised his role as Dutch Vander in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, recording new audio paired with archival footage.
MacInnes’s Family Shared the News on Facebook
News of MacInnes’s passing was shared via the actor’s Facebook page.
“To all Angus’ fans around the world, with breaking hearts we write this: Angus MacInnes, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and actor died on 23rd of December 2024,” the statement reads.
“His work touched countless lives. And he took great pride in being part of these stories that continue to resonate with audiences worldwide.”
A Convention Staple
Beloved by the Star Wars community, MacInnes frequently attended conventions and fan gatherings.

“For Angus, the fans of Star Wars held a special place in his heart. He loved meeting you at conventions, hearing your stories, and sharing in your passion for the saga. He was continually humbled, delighted, and honoured by the admiration and passion of the fans and convention community,” the statement continued.
“Angus was more than an actor—he was a kind, thoughtful, and generous soul who brought warmth and humor into the lives of everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and fellow actors but also by his fans around the world – his family thank you all.”
