Linda Lavin Was Working on a New Series For Hulu When She Passed Away
The world was shocked and saddened to learn yesterday that Linda Lavin had passed away at the age of 87.
While Lavin will be best remembered for starring as Alice Hyatt on Alice from 1976 to 1985, the actress had a prolific career that spanned stage, screen, and television.
In addition to Alice, Lavin starred in Barney Miller, Sean Saves the World, The Good Wife, and 9JKL. On stage, she received Tony nominations for her roles in Last of the Red Hot Lovers, The Diary of Anne Franck, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, Collected Stories, and The Lyons. She won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for 1987’s Broadway Bound.
In recent years, Lavin has continued to be active, starring in B Positive from 2020 to 2022 and appearing in 2021’s Being the Ricardos.
Lavin Was Set to Star in Hulu’s ‘Mid-Century Modern’
At the time of her passing, Lavin was filming a new comedy for Hulu titled Mid-Century Modern from Will & Grace creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan.
Ryan Murphy executive produced the series, which also stars Matt Bomer, Nathan Lane, and Nathan Lee Graham.
“Working with Linda was one of the highlights of our careers,” Kohan, Mutchnick and Jimmy Burrows wrote in a joint statement of Lavin’s passing. “She was a magnificent actress, singer, musician, and a heat seeking missile with a joke. But more significantly, she was a beautiful soul. Deep, joyful, generous and loving. She made our days better. The entire staff and crew will miss her beyond measure. We are better for having known her.”
There Were Still Three Episodes Left to Be Filmed
According to a new report from The Wrap, when Lavin passed away, there were still three episodes to shoot of the series. The plan had been to finish the show in January.
While it remains to be seen how Mid-Century Modern will handle Lavin’s passing, Hulu released a statement mourning the actress.
“Our deepest and heartfelt condolences go to Linda Lavin’s family and loved ones. She was a legend in our industry, bringing her tremendous talent to audiences for over seven decades,” a spokesperson for 20th Television and Hulu said in a statement. “She will be forever missed by her ‘Mid-Century Modern’ family, as we mourn this incredible loss together.”
Linda Lavin was 87 years old.
