Top Ten Disney Searches of 2024
What’s the weirdest internet search you’ve ever done?
You know what? I really don’t want to know. And I’d prefer you never to ask me that question as well.

When we’re speaking privately with our phones or searching on our computers, we tend to ask some embarrassing questions.
In fact, just recently, I noticed that some people on the internet want to know about the monarchical hierarchy among Disney Princesses.

Elsa
They’re not power rankings, folks, and they’re not real people, either.
So, if you want Elsa to be THE ruler of all things Disney, she is.

The nice thing about our society is that we generally reach consensus opinions on most topics.
Here are the top ten Disney searches of 2024. And I’ll level with you that this was the easiest one ever to write.
Y’all were VERY specific with your Disney preferences this year.
Alien: Romulus

Here’s one of the biggest surprises on the list, at least to me.
Alien: Romulus debuted in theaters in August and promptly earned a factor of four more than its production budget.

So, the latest Alien reboot proved quite successful financially. However, the film earned “just” $350 million worldwide.
Alien: Romulus is only the 15th most profitable film of 2024 and only fifth among Disney releases.

Still, this movie garnered more search interest than Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which didn’t make the list.
Deadpool & Wolverine

Okay, a couple of these won’t surprise you, nor should they.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe needed a big hit and effectively turned over the marketing duties to star Ryan Reynolds.

The actor spent the body of six months repeatedly going viral.
His innate comedy instincts underscored the fact that this was less a Disney/Marvel movie and more Reynolds being goofy.

Understandably, fans performed many searches to discover what Reynolds was doing and when the movie was coming out.
Disney Springs Drone Show

It has a name, people!
Disney Dreams That Soar Presented by ATT debuted at Disney Springs this past summer and immediately garnered headlines.

This nighttime presentation represented Disney’s first (American) attempt at a drone show.
Internationally, several Disney parks have hosted drone shows, but drones aren’t as safe as you might believe.

So, Disney chose a controlled environment to unveil its gorgeous new show.
Everyone loved Disney Dreams That Soar, but it only ran during the summer. It was never intended to be a long-term thing.
Hugh Jackman

Here’s my favorite search result of the year due to what it implies.
Throughout calendar 2025, Hugh Jackman can turn to his buddy, Ryan Reynolds, and say, “I’m more popular than you.”
Photo: The Hollywood Reporter
He’s right, at least according to Google Trends. The system ranked Jackman as one of the top ten celebrities this year.
Reynolds was nowhere to be found on the list despite the fact that Deadpool & Wolverine made it.

This outcome causes me to wonder whether people just think of Reynolds as Deadpool now.
Hurricanes Milton and Helene

I’m grouping these two together because they represent the same thing.
These weather events impacted several parts of the United States and countless countries.

Understandably, everyone potentially impacted by the hurricanes followed updates closely.
At Walt Disney World, Milton and Helene made landfall within two weeks of one another.

Tourists carefully monitored Disney updates to learn about whether the parks would remain open.
Meanwhile, Floridians searched for Disney hotels, knowing those are the safest places to be during a hurricane.
Inside Out 2

Believe it or not, people searched for details about the number one box office hit of 2024.
In fact, Google Trends lists Inside Out 2 as THE most searched film of the year.

This one isn’t difficult to understand, as Inside Out 2 also became an all-time top ten box office hit.
So, the interest level was outrageously high and sustained through the title’s release on Disney+.
James Earl Jones

If I started listing honorifics for James Earl Jones, I’d still be talking about him in three days.
One of the most accomplished thespians of all time, Jones earned his first Hall of Fame spot in 1985!

The fact that he remained relative for the body of 40 years after that speaks volumes about the EGOT winner.
Simply stated, James Earl Jones did everything any human being could possibly accomplish in Hollywood.

Jones voiced the characters of Darth Vader from Star Wars and Mufasa from The Lion King.
He also starred in magnificent works of art like Bang the Drum Slowly, Field of Dreams, Roots, and the always-charming Sneakers.

The actor died in September. He was 93 years old and had one of the greatest impacts on pop culture of anyone born in the 20th century.
Understandably, fans searched for tributes and career retrospectives about Jones in the wake of his death.
Jeremy Allen White

By now, I’d think you’re familiar with the name. Just in case, Jeremy Allen White is the star of Hulu’s The Bear.
That makes him the face of the hottest show on streaming for the past three seasons.

While another show came out of nowhere and stole some of The Bear’s thunder at the Emmys, White’s show remains staggeringly successful.
The Bear won a record-setting ten Emmys for its first season. Then, the show won 11 Emmys for its second season.

Not coincidentally, White’s career is ascending, and people want to know more about him.
Moana 2

The search interest in Moana 2 perhaps makes the most sense of anything on this list.
Remember that the movie didn’t exist before February. That was the month when Disney dropped a bombshell.

Photo: Disney
The people working on a Moana series for Disney+ felt strongly enough about the project to suggest a theatrical release.
Since a theatrical release potentially earns a lot more money, Disney CEO Bob Iger was all for the idea.

Disney
Once Iger announced a Moana sequel, fans searched the internet for all the available information regarding the project.
That curiosity provided Moana 2 with a nine-month runway of heightened interest and equivalent search results.

Not coincidentally, the film is currently enjoying a prolonged box office run including three consecutive weeks as the number one film.
Shogun

Finally, we have Disney’s biggest success story of the year, which is really saying something, given all the titles we’ve discussed.
At the start of 2024, Shogun appeared to be a pure gamble on Disney’s part.

Photo: Disney+
FX on Hulu authorized a VERY expensive limited series based on the James Clavell novels and 1980s mini-series of the same name.
Disney reportedly spent $25 million per episode on Shogun for a total of $250 million, making it one of the most expensive projects ever.

Photo: IMDB
Thankfully, the gamble paid off as Shogun quickly became one of the strongest performers ever on Hulu.
Data suggested that countless people signed up for Hulu solely to watch Shogun, and it’s easy to understand why.

Photo: Also IMDB
Shogun won a historic 18 Emmys, making it “the most awarded single season of television in Emmy history.”
Soon afterward, Disney flipped from describing Shogun as a limited series to confirming second and third seasons.

So, there were plenty of searches about Shogun’s future as well.
To a larger point, Disney’s entertainment industry dominance sustained search interest in the company throughout 2024.
