The Upcoming Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Refurbishment Is Much Ado About Nothing
Earlier this week, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a Notice of Commencement for a construction project at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.
When news of the filing broke, fans quickly began to speculate that the attraction was getting an update. After all, Space Ranger Spin has remained essentially unchanged since it opened in 1998, and both the shooters and projections feel dated.

Outside of the fact that frequent Disney contractor Maddox Electric would install new projectors in the attraction, details on the refurbishment remained sparse.
The Scope of the Refurbishment Is Minimal
As rumors continued to swirl that the attraction could close for a significant upgrade sometime next year, reporter Scott Gustin took to X to clarify the situation.

Per Gustin, the upcoming refurbishment will feature routine projector maintenance and nothing more. Additionally, the ride will not need to close for the project.
A few updates: This permit is for routine maintenance of projectors used in Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and the ride will not need to close for refurbishment for the work to take place. https://t.co/jZxx9Z8imT

While it’s nice to see Disney giving Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin some attention, the scope of the upcoming refurbishment will likely disappoint fans.
Hopefully, the attraction’s speed tunnel will be more reliable with the projector maintenance complete.
