‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ Aims to Gain Traction at the Holiday Box Office
Wicked, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Nosferatu– there is no shortage of great movies out right now, and Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King is attempting to hold its own amongst them.
The new movie continues to roar at the holiday box office, though it is slightly lagging behind some fierce competition, mainly Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Paramount’s new movie inspired by the Sega game franchise continues to dominate the domestic box office. On Friday, it earned another $12.6 million, boosting its overall North American earnings to $112 million.
Mufasa GainsTraction
The Barry Jenkins-directed prequel earned $12.1 million on Friday, bringing its domestic total close to $100 million. With a $200 million production budget, the film needs success both domestically and internationally to solidify its place as a significant Disney hit.

Following its underwhelming opening behind Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Mufasa is striving to gain traction among family audiences, especially during this holiday season.

However, “Sonic” shows no signs of slowing down after reaching $100 million in North America in its first eight days. The movie also already has a 4th follow-up in the works. Right now, Sonic the Hedgehog and “Mufasa” are competing for children and family moviegoers.
Despite the stiff competition from Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which has already grossed $112 million domestically, Mufasa remains a contender.

The new Disney film dives into the origins of Simba’s father enlisting Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala.
As the year-end holidays continue, Mufasa hopes to captivate audiences with its heartfelt storytelling and excel at the box office.
