‘Moana 2’ Makes Waves as One of the Highest Grossing Sequels Ever

These earnings have secured its position as the fourth-highest-grossing film worldwide in 2024. Domestically, it ranks fifth, and internationally, it holds the eighth spot.
Milestones and Achievements
The Disney sequel is one of the top 50 highest-grossing sequels ever, currently sitting at #46.
It has surpassed fan-favorite movies like Thor: Love and Thunder and Spider-Man 3 and now is just behind The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

When it comes to all-time domestic earnings, Moana 2 is among the top 75, beating out The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1 and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Highest Grossing Film
Produced on a $150 million budget, Moana 2 is one of Disney’s most profitable movies of the year, joining hits like Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine.
It is also one of the top 20 highest-grossing animated films of all time, passing up classics like The Incredibles and Monsters Inc.
Though extremely successful, the sequel is still behind other favorites, including The Secret Life of Pets and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
More Competition
Despite its success, Moana 2 still faces competition. Recent releases like Wicked and the upcoming premieres of Mufasa: The Lion King and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 are predicted to impact the movie rankings.
Moana 2 is expected to drop to the #3 spot this weekend.
