Amid Speculation About His Future, George Stephanopoulos Signs a New Deal With ABC
When news broke that ABC News had reached a $15 million settlement with President-elect Donald Trump over a libel claim involving George Stephanopoulos, the longtime anchor’s future at the network seemed in doubt.
Stephanopoulos was reportedly blindsided and angry by Disney’s decision to settle the lawsuit, and sources close to the situation speculated that he could leave the network.

Subsequently, the longtime anchor deleted his X account, and his representatives referred all calls to ABC News.
Stephanopoulos Has Been an ABC Fixture
Stephanopoulos has been a staple of ABC News since joining the network in 1997. He has hosted his Sunday program This Week since 2002 and anchored Good Morning America since 2009.
With the anchor seemingly unhappy with his employer and Disney looking to cut costs at Good Morning America, it seemed like Stephanopoulos’s exit could be imminent.
