Large Crane Arrives in Frontierland as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Construction Looms
If you have been reading along here at MickeyBlog, you know that the Magic Kingdom’s Big Thunder Mountain is preparing for a major refurbishment that will see the attraction close for a full year.
Back in October, Disney announced that the Wildest Ride in the Wilderness would officially close on January 6, 2025, and remain shuttered until 2026.
While we don’t know exactly what Disney has planned for Big Thunder Mountian during the refurbishment, the timing of the closure makes sense.
Change Is Coming to Frontierland
With a new Disney Villains land set to be built beyond Thunder Mountain and Frontierland bracing itself for the introduction of Cars, 2025 will be a year of construction and change.

The prevailing hope, at least, is that Disney World’s Thunder Mountain will finally get the dynamite finale that is present in other versions of the attraction. For now, however, we will have to wait and see.
A Large Crane Has Arrived
With just weeks to go until Big Thunder Mountian officially closes, Disney seems to be preparing for some heavy-duty construction.
Tertiary work has been ongoing in Frontierland for months. Now, however, a large crane has arrived near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
The machinery can be seen from across the Rivers of America and has drastically affected the park’s sightlines.
Here is another look.
While the Thunder Mountain construction’s final appearance remains to be seen, guests should get used to seeing Frontierland in a state of change.
Hopefully, we learn more soon.
