A ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Revival Is Coming to Disney+
Nearly 25 years after its debut on Fox, Malcolm in the Middle is returning.
Disney Branded Television has ordered four new episodes of the iconic sitcom from series creator Linwood Boomer. In addition to Boomer, Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek are set to return.
“Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party,” the revival’s official synopsis reads.
The Return of a Beloved Sitcom
Pioneering the golden age of single-camera comedies, Malcolm in the Middle ran on Fox for seven seasons from 2000 through 2006. The series, which was comprised of 151 episodes, followed the adventures of a dysfunctional working-class family anchored by child prodigy Malcolm.
“‘Malcolm in the Middle’ is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart and relatability,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television.
“Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again. With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved — along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.”

Muniz, Cranston, and Kaczmarek shared short videos announcing Malcom’s return and sharing their excitement.

Disney Continues to Revisit the Past
With the revelation that Malcolm in the Middle is returning, the series joins Scrubs and Prison Break as the latest Disney revivals in development. The company is clearly looking to mine its television library to create new content for streaming.
At this time, the studio has not announced when the Malcolm in the Middle revival will debut.
