We Tried the EDIBLE Drinking Straws on the Disney Treasure!
Ahoy everybody, from here aboard the Disney Treasure!
This week, MickeyBlog and MickeyTravels have had the most magical time exploring Disney Cruise Line’s newest addition to the fleet, and we’ve loved having you read along with us.
From the food to the merch, the itinerary to the on-board experiences, I think we can all agree it has been a magnificent voyage indeed!
Right now, we’re going to show you one of the teeniest details we’ve loved to see here on the ship, and we think you’ll agree it’s really quite spectacular.
While perhaps not as mind-altering as that incredible Moana production was, we certainly couldn’t miss showing you this fun feature! So, let’s hop over to the beautiful HeiHei Café, and see what our reporters have found….
Edible Straws
The switch to sustainable consumables is always a mission we can get behind, and over the years we’ve been so appreciative to see Disney making serious efforts to help protect our planet through the cafes and restaurants in the parks and at sea.
While cruising on the Treasure, our reporters were really excited to spot an innovative new product we’ve never seen before at Disney…and we simply had to show you.
They’re edible drinking straws!
So, let’s see. Plastic straws are a complete no-no, paper straws aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, and it’s so easy to forget your reusable straw once you’ve taken it out of your bag to wash.
The solution? Made by Spanish company Sorbos, each of these colorful packets contains edible straws for cold beverages, completely reducing waste in the tastiest way possible!
Available in cafes and other locations across the ship, these individually-wrapped straws are bio-degradable, compostable, zero-waste, and made with absolutely no plastic. Better yet, they’re enjoyably edible!
Available in flavors including Coffee, Chocolate, Strawberry, Lime, and Tropical, each straw starts off hard (with crunch!) for easy sipping, yet slowly becomes softer ready for you to eat once you’ve finished enjoying your drink. While they do disintegrate over a short time, they’re not as dry-seeming as paper straws are, and the unobtrusive flavors are tasty and fun.
Our reporters gave them a try, and were definite fans of this innovative way to cut waste here onboard the Treasure.
Hopefully, we’ll see these rolled out across the other ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, and perhaps further beyond in the future!
It’s worth noting that these straws are, according to the ingredients, not actually suitable for vegetarians or vegans.
But, not to worry — paper straws are still available across all locations if you’d rather stick with those!
So, what do you think? Would you try these new edible straws in your drink aboard the Disney Treasure? Let us know in the comments below!
