REVIEW: The Disney Treasure’s Worlds of Marvel Groot Remix Packs a Surprising Punch!
Ahoy from the Disney Treasure! That’s right–we’re sailing on the Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship!
While onboard, we’re checking out everything–from adventurous lounges to hidden stateroom bunkbeds. So let’s head to a mighty restaurant to check out their dining experience!
Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix
We’re here at Worlds of Marvel for their brand-new “Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix” dining experience!
Location and Experience
Worlds of Marvel, located on deck 4, welcomes guests in with an immersive, futuristic dining room that has sleek décor.
The restaurant quite literally transports you into the Worlds of Marvel (hence the name) and tests your knowledge with trivia! Your table’s core will turn red if your answers are incorrect and green if correct.
The buttons will also flash different colors for each seat at the table, encouraging everyone to participate! (Of course, participation is optional.)
At one point, Groot comes on-screen and breaks the cables for the radio–which plays oldies (think music from Guardians of the Galaxy – Cosmic Rewind)–so the waiters have to walk around with flashlights, looking for Groot so they can help him put the cables back in place. (Don’t worry–the radio gets fixed.)
The trivia ends with a scene of Groot showing Rocket all the memories he combined from the various Marvel movies. Oh–and of course there’s a post-dinner scene, much like the post-credit scenes Marvel is known for. The scene shows the younger Marvel heroes eating on deck, paying homage to the shawarma scene from The Avengers.
The experience is much less interactive than the version on the Disney Wish, which we honestly prefer. But that’s enough sightseeing–let’s dig into some food!
Food Review
Time to eat!
The menu is exciting, bringing guests plenty of appetizers, salads, entrees, and desserts to choose from!
Appetizers
We started with a few appetizers! First up was the Malaysian Chicken Satay with kecap manis, coconut rice, cucumber, and roasted peanut dipping. The kecap manis was reminiscent of a sweet soy sauce, and the chicken was tender and juicy. The peanut dipping enhanced the chicken, while the coconut rice lacked…well…coconut.
The Porcini Sacchetti (Vegetarian) has porcini mushroom, swiss and fontina cheese, garlic, and thyme prosecco wine sauce. This was our favorite appetizer! They were delicious, rich, and creamy–as any good pasta dish should be–and we actually ended up ordering more. (They were seriously that good!)
The Ahi Tuna Poke (Dairy-free) has ginger, wakame, bonito flakes, sesame seed, avocado, cucumber, green onions, radish, and cilantro. This was so delicious! The fish is fresh, and when combined with the creamy avocado and crunchy cucumber, it acts as a great palate cleanser.
Starter Salads
The Iceberg Wedge Salad (Vegetarian/Gluten-free) has feta cheese, kalamata olive, cucumber, red and yellow grape tomatoes, and yogurt mint-lemon dressing. This is a Greek take on the wedge salad we’ve come to know pretty well. It was fresh–as all the wedge salads onboard have been–and the olives and dressing were perfect.
Soups
The White Cheddar Broccolini Soup (Vegetarian) with crisp dark pumpernickel crouton was very comforting and warm! We loved the consistency of the soup–which was much milder than the traditional broccoli. We actually prefer the broccolini over broccoli!
The Lobster Bisque with lobster, tarragon, white wine, cognac, cream, tomato, and chives had large chunks of lobster and you could really taste the cognac. The bisque was very creamy and rich–much like the broccolini soup–and the lobster packed a delicious punch of flavor.
Entrees
The first entree we tasted was the Plant-based Soba Noodle Bowl with miso, ginger, soybeans, tempeh, bok choy, green onion, carrots, lemon grass, and chili-cilantro avocado oil. This was surprisingly hearty, and the broth was flavorful. The noodles were cooked perfectly and we loved the textures of the vegetables and tofu. This was a super cohesive dish!
The Beef Wellington comes with beef tenderloin, crepes, mushroom duxelle, puff pastry, fingerling potatoes, baby vegetables, and cabernet jus. The steak was tender–perhaps a little overcooked–but still good. The cabernet jus was rich and the perfect sauce for the dish, while the mushroom duxelle enhanced the flavor. The puff pastry was flaky and golden brown–what you hope for!
The Roasted Marinated Peri Peri Chicken (Gluten-free/Dairy-free) has long green beans, honey-roasted sweet potatoes, charred bearss lime, and peri peri sauce. The sweet potatoes and green beans were fresh but light on the seasoning, while the chicken was packed with flavor (and perhaps a bit of chili powder).
Lighter Entrees
The Crisp Chili Chicken Salad (Dairy-free) comes with pineapple, cucumber, soybeans, green onions, green and red bell peppers, toasted sesame seeds, daikon, iceberg, endive, and ponzu dressing. This wasn’t anything to write home about, but still solid. The bell peppers, fried chicken, and edamame provided a great crunch, while the dressing was reminiscent of pepper jelly.
Dessert
Just when we thought our stomachs couldn’t handle much more, we decided to push the limit and get dessert(s)! The Chocolate Decadence has bitter chocolate cream, truffle cream, and chocolate sauce. This treat was super light, and the chocolate was subtle. This is the perfect size and won’t fill you up, so you can get more dessert afterward!
The Orchard Peach Tart, which is an almond peach tart with vanilla sauce and dulce de leche ice cream, was enjoyable and fresh! It reminded us of peach pie à la mode, with a sweet glaze and creamy ice cream!
The Double Blueberry Cheesecake is a blueberry cheesecake with lemon shortcrust and a blueberry glaze. This was a beautiful dish with full blueberry flavor. It’s honestly more a mousse than a cheesecake, with a soft-whipped consistency and a cookie crust to break up the soft texture.
The Celebration Cake has baked cheesecake, fresh strawberries, pastry cream, and a white chocolate glaze. The dessert was light and refreshing, while the strawberry was not overly sweet.
Overall
Considering the food and theming, we think this is an incredible dining option onboard! In fact, we think this dining experience is better than the version on the Disney Wish, as there’s less going on so you can focus more on the amazing food! The ambiance was definitely the priority here–and we enjoyed it!
Also, the food was some of the best we had during our entire trip. (And that’s saying something.)
