Dick Van Dyke Was Rescued By Neighbors As He Attempted to Evacuate His Malibu Home
Earlier this week, Dick Van Dyke was one of thousands of Malibu residents who were forced to evacuate their homes as the Franklin Fire continued to rage in California.
While Van Dyke initially took to Facebook to share that he had safely evacuated, it turns out that the Hollywood legend’s story was more harrowing than initially let on.
In a recent interview on the Today show, Van Dyke revealed that he was actually rescued by neighbors, who found him crawling toward his car in an attempt to evacuate.

“It was coming from the hill, you could see it,” he explained.
“And oh my God. We got out of here. I was trying to crawl to the car. And I had exhausted myself. I couldn’t get up. Three neighbors came and carried me out and came back and put out a little fire in the guest house and saved me.”
Van Dyke’s Cat Has Been Safely Found
When Van Dyke initially announced his evacuation, the actor revealed that his cat Bobo had escaped and thus was left behind. Thankfully, both Van Dyke’s home and his cat survived the wildfire.

“We found Bobo as soon as we arrived back home this morning,” Van Dyke wrote in a Facebook post on today. “There was so much interest in his disappearance that Animal Control was called in to assist. But, thankfully he was easy to find and not harmed.”
While it sounds like Van Dyke’s evacuation was a difficult one, it is great to hear that everything turned out ok.

It has been a busy couple of weeks for Van Dyke. Before the evacuation, he was preparing to celebrate his 99th birthday and recently appeared in a new Coldplay music video.
