Details About the First Florida Inspection of the Walt Disney World Monorail System Emerge
Engineers from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) conducted the first-ever inspection of the Walt Disney World monorail system late last year, and News 6 has finally gotten the photos.
At the height of Disney’s feud with Ron DeSantis, the Florida governor signed a bill authorizing the state’s Department of Transportation to regulate the Walt Disney World monorail. Prior to the new law, Disney had the authority to conduct their own inspections.

The First Inspection Took Place Three Months After the Bill Was Signed
According to News 6, three months after the bill was signed, Florida Department of Transportation inspectors visited the monorail maintenance shop behind the Magic Kingdom.
In addition to the state engineers, FDOT District 5 Secretary John Tyler, Disney World Vice President Greg Hale, and Disney government relations lobbyist Leticia Admas were on hand for the inspection.

The FDOT inspection included a review of the monorail’s concrete columns, which turned up “no issues.”
Later, the FDOT returned to inspect both the underwater columns and the horizontal beams that guests travel across.
According to the News 6 report, the reports show that inspections were coordinated with Disney officials to take place in the early morning hours when theme parks were closed. They were also scheduled to not interfere with Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.

Going forward, the inspections will take place every two years.
A Scar From the Disney-DeSantis Feud
While it has largely been business as usual at Walt Disney World since the DeSantis-Disney feud came to an end, if you look closely, it is easy to see lasting changes that came about because of the battle.

FTOD inspections of the Walt Disney World monorail system will long serve as remembrances of that tumultuous time.
