The Lines Between Linear and Streaming Continue to Blur
Once upon a time, media companies seemed intent on keeping a barrier between cable television and streaming. The prevailing notion was that if streamers had access to live events, sports, and cable’s biggest shows, it would increase the rate of cord-cutting.

With streaming now clearly established as the future of television, content providers have come to change their views. Disney, for example, has been adamant that its linear and streaming distribution channels can work in tandem to reach a broader audience.
To that end, we have seen linear television’s biggest shows released quickly to streaming, and live sports become more readily available. Now, one of Hollywood’s premiere events will also stream live. Just last week, Disney integrated ESPN+, which includes hundreds of live events, into Disney+.

Other developments, such as the planned launch of Venu and the new content deal between Hulu and Fox, further point to the new symbiotic relationship between linear and streaming.
