Downtown Disney’s Paseo Has Been Named One of the Best New Restaurants in America
The Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort has long been the go-to place for guests looking to get a bite to eat. With 27 restaurants ranging from quick service stands to signature dining experiences, the district has something for everyone.
In May of this year, Paseo opened at Downtown Disney alongside its sister restaurant Centrico, bringing authentic Mexican food from Chef Carlos Gaytan. While Downtown Disney is home to many fan-favorite eateries, Paseo quickly established itself as one of the hottest spots in the district.

Now, less than six months after Paseo opened, the restaurant is being recognized as one of the best places to eat in the country.
Yelp Has High Praise For Paseo
Yelp, the crowdsourcing review website with ratings for over 285 million businesses, has released its annual list of the best new restaurants. When the rankings were tallied, Paseo came in as the ninth-best new restaurant.

“Paseo’s Carlos Gaytán has the distinction of being the first Mexican-born chef to receive a Michelin star, and that pedigree can be tasted in every dish at this upscale Mexican spot in the Downtown Disney District (a shopping and dining center just outside Disneyland),” Yelp opined.
Specifically, the review site singled out Gaytán’s Mama’s Cochinita Pibil.

“As the story goes, Chef Carlos’ mother was unsatisfied with his traditional cochinita pibil and made one of her own that incorporated pineapple vinegar and guajillo peppers … From the smoky mezcal in the signature Maya-Tai cocktail to the duck leg carnitas on Paseo Waffles for brunch, look for clever Mexican twists on favorites across the expansive menu,” the website explained.
Chef Carlos’s Story
Chef Carlos was born in Huitzuco, Guerrero, Mexico, where he fell in love with cooking at a young age. Inspired by his family’s recipes, he moved to Chicago and opened Tzuco. After receiving numerous awards, Chef Carlos is now widely considered an ambassador of Mexican cuisine throughout the world.

With his latest accomplishment, Chef Carlos may now boast that he has the highest-rated Mexican restaurant in California. That is quite the achievement.
