The World Is About to See A Lot More of Stephen A. Smith as New Contract Nears Finalization
Details of Stephen A. Smith’s expansive new contract with ESPN have begun to trickle out, and it is clear that fans will soon see a different side of the First Take star.
As a quick recap, Smith and ESPN are closing in on a six-year $120 million contract that will make Smith one of the highest-paid personalities at ESPN.

Last June, the Wall Street Journal reported that Smith had turned down an $18 million per year contract and that the two sides were still far apart. Earlier this month, however, Variety announced that a deal was close.
The ‘First Take’ Star Will Get to Spread His Wings
While Smith has long been open about his desire to be ESPN’s highest-paid star, the NBA guru’s new contract gives him something perhaps more valuable than money- creative freedom.

Walt Disney Company
According to Puck, Smith’s new contract will reportedly allow him to pitch non-sports ideas to Disney, who will naturally be footing the bill for the deal. Additionally, the new agreement is reportedly non-exclusive outside of sports. This would seemingly open up opportunities to expand his presence into the realm of entertainment and politics, both of which he has shown an affinity for.
In addition to his work at ESPN, Smith has already branched out and created The Stephen A. Smith Show on YouTube and has been a frequent guest on political shows, including Hannity and NewsNation with Chris Cuomo.

Additionally, Smith has shown interest in hosting a late-night show (perhaps replacing Jimmy Kimmel) and has appeared on General Hospital.
Smith Has No Comment
While it sounds like the new deal between ESPN and Stephen A. is all but completed, the latter has been loathe to discuss the negotiations.
“Here’s my quote, ‘I was born AT NIGHT, not last night. I don’t talk about my contract negotiations. Never have. Never will,” he told The Athletic earlier this month.

When the dust finally settles, one thing is clear- audiences are about to see a lot more of Stephen A. Smith.
