Air Canada To Introduce Carry-On Fees and Seat Change Charges
Guests traveling aboard Air Canada will soon have to pay a little bit extra to bring their baggage aboard certain flights.
Following in the footsteps of Spirt and Frontier Airlines, Air Canada has announced that beginning next January, it will charge basic-economy passengers for bringing anything larger than a small backpack aboard certain flights.

The new carry-on baggage policy will apply to basic-economy flights within the United States, Canada, and Mexico and to trips to the Caribbean.
What Will Passengers Pay?
Under the new policy, basic-economy passengers will pay $25 for their first carry-on bag and $36 for a second bag.
The new Air Canada policy comes at a time when travelers are increasingly bringing bigger carry-on bags aboard flights to avoid airlines’ increased checking fees.

Air Canada travelers who do not check their oversized bags when buying tickets or checking in at home will also now be charged a $46 fee.
According to the airline, the fee “aligns the airline’s fare structure with similar fare offerings by other Canadian carriers.

Finally, beginning January 21, Air Canada passengers will have to pay a fee to change their seats after check-in.
The Canadian Government Is Not Happy
Air Canada’s new policy changes have drawn the ire of passengers and the Canadian government.

“Let’s just say I’m not very happy today with what I’ve heard from Air Canada,” Federal Transport Minister Anita Anand told CTV.
“I think they need to take a look at the persons that they are targeting with these excess fees. It is not acceptable.”
