‘Moana 2’ Is Sailing Toward a Historic Second Weekend
Any fears that Moana 2 would sail off a cliff after its historic start at the box office can officially be put to rest.
According to a new report from Deadline, Disney’s latest blockbuster is heading toward a $60 million second weekend, which would be unprecedented for the week after Thanksgiving.

The First Week of December Is Traditionally Slow For Movie Theaters
While Thanksgiving week is traditionally one of the busiest box office weeks of the year, especially for families, the first week of December is usually a disaster.
As audiences shift their attention to Christmas shopping and other festive activities, movie theater attendance numbers have long plummeted.

Amazingly, however, Moana 2 has not succumbed to the pitfalls of the first weekend of December and is instead heading towards another record-breaking frame.
Another Record-Breaking Weekend
If Moana 2 can deliver a $60 million second weekend, the film will shatter the record for the best first weekend of December. Currently, Frozen 2 holds that distinction, having brought in $35.1 million in 2019.

Since hitting theaters last Wednesday, Moana 2’s box office run has been nothing short of astounding. The film already has obliterated the records for best Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, and five-day debut.
Now, it looks like Moana 2 will be able to keep that momentum going. The film added another $8 million to its domestic total yesterday and has now made $239.3 million in its first seven days in theaters.

That means the sequel is now less than $10 million behind the lifetime domestic gross of the first Moana film.
Will ‘Moana 2’ Catch ‘Inside Out 2’
With limited competition arriving in theaters over the next few weeks, Moana 2 should have room to run. The question now is whether the movie will be able to topple Inside Out 2 and become the highest-grossing animated film ever.
