First-Class Seats Are Coming to Frontier Airlines as Carriers Continue to Vie For Travelers’ Loyalties
As the airline industry continues to face slimming profit margins and tightening competition, Frontier Airlines is making a major change.
The budget carrier announced today that it will be installing two rows of first-class seats at the front of its aircrafts. Additionally, the Denver-based airline says it is overhauling its loyalty program to offer complimentary seat upgrades when available and a free “companion ticket” for its platinum and diamond-level members (the loyalty programs’ highest levels).
The changes will begin in September.
Frontier’s New Revenue Model
According to a report from CNBC, Frontier CEO Barry Biffle expects that the new changes will bring in $250 million to the airline in 2026 and more than $500 million in 2028.
When examining Frontier’s business model, the company determined that its biggest areas of opportunity were first-class seats and rewards programs.
“While we have the lowest costs in the industry, we don’t have the best revenue model,” Biffle said in an interview. “This is going to be a game changer.
Airlines Continue to Increase Luxury Offerings
As the airline industry continues to vie for travelers’ loyalty, carriers have found that people are willing to pay for added comfort and perks. To capitalize, Delta, United, and Southwest Airlines have all made changes to entice guests with luxury.
Even smaller airlines, such as Jet Blue and the recently bankrupt Spirit Airlines, have added additional perks such as first-class seats, more legroom, or in-flight meals.
Now, Frontier is following suit. True to their business model, however, the airline’s silver bullet will be the lower prices they offer.
