VIDEO: There’s a New (and CONFUSING) Solar-Powered Trash Can in EPCOT!
When it comes to EPCOT, expect to see some innovative ideas. (It is the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, after all.)
The future is bright in EPCOT…literally. Every now and then, you can catch glimpses into the future, like roaming robots and talking trash cans! And today, we spotted another futuristic trash can in the park–let’s take a look.
Solar-Powered Trash Can
While walking through EPCOT, we spotted the new solar-powered, foot-activated trash can!
You can find it near the Bavaria Holiday Kitchen.
You can use the pull handle…
…or step down on the pedal to open the can.
We searched the logo (“Bigbelly”) labeled on the can and learned this: “A Bigbelly garbage can has an automatic solar trash compactor inside, allowing it to hold five times more waste than a regular can.”
When the can is full, “it transmits a wireless signal to the garbage collectors, telling them it’s time to make a pick-up. What’s more, all the power needed for Bigbelly to compact trash and communicate comes from solar panels on the top.”
Fascinating!
The guests we saw using the can just pulled the handle, but the pedal is actually very helpful when your hands are full! Check out how it works:

The rest of the trash cans around World Showcase seem to be the classic cans, so we believe this is the only solar-powered trash can at this time.
So if you’re in the area, be sure to use the solar-powered can. And we’ll keep bringing you the latest happening around the resort, so stay tuned to MickeyBlog.com.
