REVIEW: Good Food, Bad Drinks at EPCOT’s Las Posadas Holiday Kitchen
It’s the first day of the 2024 EPCOT Festival of the Holidays, and we couldn’t be feeling more festive!
Already today we’ve bought the merch, greeted the characters, and prepared for a night of fabulous entertainment. Now on the agenda? A festive feast of international holiday cooking, of course!
Las Posadas Holiday Kitchen
Next up on our tour around the World Showcase is Las Posadas Holiday Kitchen, one of many marketplace booths offering a range of options inspired by round-the-world festive dishes.
This kitchen is located in the Mexico pavilion, so let’s step on up and get a closer look at that menu!
Food Items
There are three food items available on the menu here this year, with the only returning option being the Dulce de Leche Churro. Sprinkled with a dusting of cinnamon sugar, we think this sweet treat will be making plenty of guests smile this season! It costs $6.50.
New for 2024 is the Empanada de Pollo, a fried corn tortilla stuffed with chipotle chicken and potatoes. This is all topped with chile rojo salsa, crema Mexicana, and queso fresco.
Costing $8, we definitely knew we had to try this one! Doesn’t it look good?
According to our MickeyBloggers, this dish was certainly more of a “light bite” option, but very yummy nevertheless.
That empanada shell was crisp and flaky, with a deliciously tender chicken and potato filling inside. While that sauce looks hot we can assure you that this isn’t a spicy option at all, and that crema was a delicious finishing touch!
Actually, this was our favorite item from Las Posadas this year! Definitely not one to miss out on!
Also new this year is the Tamal de Puerco con Mole, costing $9.
We thought we’d better order that one too!
This is shredded pork in corn masa, topped with mole negro, queso fresco, crema Mexicana, slivered almonds, and sesame seeds. Sounds good!
While also being plated absolutely beautifully, we’re excited to report that this dish was also a delicious treat here at Las Posadas.
Our reporters found the mole to be rich with a fun kick to it, and the masa to be soft and tasty too.
The pork here was tender and delicious, however there wasn’t really enough of the meat for our liking. That’s the only gripe — that there wasn’t more!
Beverage Options
To drink, there are three options here on the menu at Las Posadas.
First is the Holiday Margarita, a new drink blending Dos Hombres Mezcal with tequila, cranberry lime juice, allspice, and orange and blackcurrant liqueurs.
How festive does that sound?
We ordered this Marg to try, and it set us back $14.
While we liked it, our reporters found it tasted a bit less like a margarita and a bit more like a cranberry mezcal, as other flavors seemed to get a bit lost in the mix. It was tasty, but perhaps not the best drink at this year’s festival!
Another new option is the Coconut Guavarita, which consists of Tromba Blanco Tequila, coconut water, guava cream, orange liqueur, and a hint of lime rum, served with a toasted coconut rim.
Yes, we ordered this one too! It cost $13.50.
Now, unfortunately, this drink felt a little off to our reporters. The texture of the coconut rim was somewhat peculiar and, while the guava drink was good, we did find it clashed with the coconut. The whole drink was very, very sweet, and the consistency wasn’t to our liking.
Not one for us, then, but we’re glad to have tried it anyway!
The third drink option is a returning favorite, and that’s the Holiday Cerveza. This is a Mexican artisanal craft lager mixed with a blackcurrant liqueur for a holiday kick. We didn’t get this one today, but it does sound yummy!
So, what do you think – does Las Posadas Holiday Kitchen tickle your fancy this year? If so, be sure to stop by the Mexico Pavilion next time you’re at EPCOT for this year’s Festival of the Holidays.
And, be sure to stay tuned to MickeyBlog, as we’ll be reviewing plenty more seasonal treats from the festival and beyond, all right here on the blog. Thanks for joining us – it’s going to be a delicious Christmas!
