It Looks Like Disney Cruise Line Is Coming to Japan Even Earlier Than Expected
According to a new report from NHL World Japan, the Oriental Land Company has reached an agreement with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to have the Tokyo Disneyland operator use Tokyo Port as the main terminal for its new cruise ship.
As a quick recap, Disney and the Oriental Land Company agreed to a partnership earlier this year that will bring year-round Disney Cruise Line vacations to Japan.
Under the new agreement, OLC will operate a new Disney Cruise Line vessel. At the time, the partners said the ship would launch in 2029.

“Disney Cruise Line has ambitious plans to bring family vacations and Disney storytelling to more guests around the world than ever before,” Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro said.

A New Era in Disney Cruise Line History
The yet-unnamed Disney cruise ship will be constructed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, and will be a sister ship to the Disney Wish. Accordingly, the vessel will feature fan-favorite experiences, entertainment, and amenities, albeit catered to a Japanese audience.
“I am sincerely proud that Disney and Oriental Land will be able to work together to create a world-class cruise business in Japan,” said Yumiko Takano, representative director, chairperson and CEO of Oriental Land.

The New Ship Will Set Sail in 2028
Surprisingly, the new deal between the Oriental Land Company and Tokyo notes that the new ship will set sail in fiscal year 2028, not early 2029.
