Joyous Moments at Disney We Should Discuss More
My family has just returned from the Disney bubble, and oh, do we miss it.
When you’re at Disney, the outside world vanishes, replaced by a world more fantastical.
It’s also a friendlier environment where everyone has the best possible time.
Frankly, I think that sometimes we don’t appreciate the greatness of Disney enough.
Here are several moments at Disney we should discuss more.
Dancing in the Streets
Disney frequently hosts concerts, singalongs, and parades with dancing encouraged at each one.
However, my favorite kind of dancing at Disney is of the unplanned variety, which we witness regularly.
At the parks, you’ll see everything from parents dancing with their children to couples romantically swaying together even when there’s no music.
We all have such intimacy with classic Disney tunes, many of which are dancy by nature.
However, it’s more than that.
It’s just the vibe and the euphoria of the moment that makes us all feel like bopping around.
Disney Keeps Improving Spaceship Earth
Every few years, Imagineers find some remarkable new way to improve a structure built more than 40 years ago.
Most recently, Disney created a Beacon of Magic lighting effect that has turned Spaceship Earth into something that glows in the dark.
Somehow, that wasn’t the final step, though.
Disney then added lighting in the surrounding areas of EPCOT, including the walkways through the spine of the park.
At World Celebration Gardens, the lights and speakers align as well, turning the front half of EPCOT into one elongated tribute to Spaceship Earth.
I can’t really quantify this, but everyone simply seems happier at EPCOT at night nowadays as opposed to just a few years ago.
I guess we’re all suckers for pretty lights.
Embracing the Multicultural Diversity
We were standing near Cinderella Castle waiting for a nighttime presentation to begin.
To our left was an excited group of Brazilian tourists, while people who told us they were from India sat to our right.
Directly in front of us was a couple from Southampton, England, who were as fascinated by my southern accent as I was theirs.
Soon afterward, a gentleman and his family took their spot directly beside us.
While making conversation, he indicated that while he was Virginian, his family was from Okinawa.
When Walt Disney planned the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, his inspiration was the 1964 New York World’s Fair.
During his yearlong experience at this exhibition, Disney fell in love with the multicultural nature of the event.
He wanted something similar for his next theme park.
That’s what Walt Disney World has become. It’s the ultimate multicultural melting pot.
That Funny But Ominous Feeling on Boat Rides
We all know this feeling and it’s universal.
We take our seat on a Disney boat ride and instantly come to a realization.
The seat is drenched, with the logical implication clear.
The last person who sat here got absolutely soaked, and the odds are very good that we will be as well.
This epiphany is equal parts terrifying and exhilarating, and it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy that usually comes true.
For whatever reason, some seats on the boat rides receive a disproportionate amount of splash.
When you sit down and realize you’re in one of those, you should brace for the worst… or is it the best?
The Great Disney Gear Inspection
I’ll confess that this one applies more to the people I travel with than it does to me, but it amuses me nonetheless.
Everyone at a Disney theme park is always shopping with their eyes.
They want the next great piece of Disney merchandise and they’re not afraid to keep up with the Joneses to get it.
During our most recent visit, MickeyBlog had just revealed the existence of Angel and Devil Kronk.
Our post had made my wife want it, but she got a crazed look in her eye once she saw someone strutting around with the brand new shoulder plushies.
Somehow, the Figment shoulder plushie she’d gotten that very day already seemed outdated and stale.
This is legitimately one of my favorite things about a Disney visit.
Many guests are constantly window shopping by spying on everyone around them.
There is no such thing as enough for Disney merch fans.
Kids Clutching Their Favorite Toys
This one makes me swoon.
Every child has a binky, that one favorite toy that is somehow better than all the rest.
For whatever reason, every kid instinctively knows which of their toys is superior, and they hold it like a crown jewel.
At Disney, we’ve watched kids clutch their toys while hugging characters, trying to prove they’re tall enough to ride, or even in the middle of a roller coaster.
And yes, we’ve also watched terrified adults try to track down lost binkies for their children.
My favorite example of this happens when the child doesn’t own the toy yet.
Instead, they see it, they want it, and they shoot their adult a look, indicating that they’ll leave the family if they don’t get it.
People Dressing Like Their Favorite Characters
Admittedly, we visited Disney around Halloween, but that’s not really what I mean here.
There is true joy when you’re walking through the park and you see some little girl dressed as her favorite Disney princess.
We saw Mirabels, Elsas, Annas, a Snow White, and an Elena of Avalor.
Even better, children as young as a year old were in these outfits, which kind of made them look like walking drapes.
Finally, while it doesn’t achieve the same level of adorability, I always get a kick out of high quality Disneybounding, too.
We didn’t seem to see as much this trip, but I presume that’s because Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party had ended the night before.
That’s when people can wear ACTUAL Disney costumes.
Watching Kids Play at Journey of Water
Have you visited Journey of Water Inspired by Moana yet?
This interactive attraction encourages people to wave their hands and magically manipulate water.
You’ll hear the attraction before you see it, because kids giggle raucously the whole time.
Even if you don’t feel excitement about this concept, I’d strongly encourage you to visit Journey of Water.
The positive energy will remind you of why you love Disney.
