It Looks Like EPCOT Is Finally Addressing the World Celebration In-Ground Lighting Issues
When World Celebration Gardens opened in December 2023, EPCOT introduced a new pattern of in-ground lighting that helped bring the neighborhood to life as dusk set on the park.
The new lighting remained in motion throughout the night and was synchronized with Spaceship Earth and the surrounding lighting columns. This allowed the World Celebration to come to life and “dance” in unison.
Very quickly, however, the new lighting strips began to break. Soon, large segments no longer lit up or were no longer synced with the rest of the neighborhood.
Disney Takes Action
Based on the shoddy condition of the lighting earlier this year, many feared that Disney would simply remove the feature. Such a move would be especially dispiriting, as the in-ground lighting had been a prominent (and functional) feature of the EPCOT entrance area for decades.

Well, I am happy to report that the fears about the future of the EPCOT in-ground lighting were unfounded.
The Latest From World Celebration
When we visited World Celebration today, we were thrilled to see that Disney is working hard to repair the in-ground lighting, and they have made one very noticeable change.
Instead of using the translucent covering that debuted with World Celebration, Disney has begun installing a new opaque covering.
This material seems to lay more flatly into the ground and is reminiscent of the material previously used in the EPCOT entrance area.
Here is another look.
Will the Lights Themselves Be Fixed?
However, the state of the lights themselves is unclear at this time. While the new covering looks better, the underlying issues with the lighting may remain.
Disney is clearly aware of the EPCOT lighting issues, however, and appears to be taking steps to rectify the situation.
