‘Moana 2’ Looks to Make a Splash With $225 Million Thanksgiving Debut
Following the historic box office successes of Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine earlier this year, Disney will look to keep the good times rolling with the upcoming release of Moana 2.
Set three years after the events of the first film, Moana 2 will reunite audiences with an older and wiser Moana as she sets off to reconnect with the people of Oceania.

“Before Maui stole Te Fiti’s heart, our ancestors wanted to connect our island to all the people of the entire ocean. It’s my job as a Wayfinder to finish what they started,” Moana explains in the film’s trailer.
‘Moana 2’ Is Tracking Towards a Massive Opening
As the arrival of Moana is 2 inches closer, box office analysts now expect the film to make a bigger splash than first anticipated.
The last time we checked in, Moana 2 was tracking towards a $100 million five-day Thanksgiving weekend.

Now, prognosticators expect the highly anticipated Moana sequel to bring back $125 million at the domestic box office during its first five days. With the film looking at a $100 million debut overseas, it looks like Disney has another blockbuster on its hands.
While the $225 million opening would fall short of the high water mark set by Inside Out 2 earlier this year (the film grossed $295 million), it could set numerous Thanksgiving records.

Currently, the biggest domestic 5-day Thanksgiving opening belongs to Frozen II, which brought Disney $125 million in 2019.
Will ‘Moana 2’ Surpass ‘Inside Out 2’?
Earlier this year, AMC CEO Adam Aron stated that he believed Moana 2 could top the $652.9 million that Inside Out 2 grossed from the domestic box office.

If the film can earn a $125 million start, Moana 2 could be well on its way to achieving that goal. Still, the film will likely need to deliver the same kind of high audience scores and good critical reviews to keep its momentum going.
