Hulu and Fox Agree to Massive New Streaming Deal
Fox Entertainment and Hulu have reached a massive new streaming deal that will keep Fox’s programming slate on the streaming service for the foreseeable future.
The new multiyear content partnership will include in-season streaming rights for Fox’s programs and an expanded multiplatform marketing deal. According to Deadline, the deal is worth more than $1.5 billion over five years.
By reaching the new agreement, which will last through 2029, both Disney and Fox have added a sense of stability to their futures. For Fox, the deal means that they now have a major distributor on streaming for some of their biggest programs. With Hulu now set to remain the home of Fox programming, the studio has a foundation to confidently build on.
“Our friends at Hulu and Disney Entertainment are exceptional partners, together driving ongoing mutual growth and strong results,” said Rob Wade, CEO of Fox Entertainment. “Through our new agreement, we look forward to expanding on this impressive track record and collaboratively shaping the future of television in today’s shifting media landscape.”
Hulu Retains the Fox Television Library
For Disney, the agreement with Fox means that some of the biggest cable shows, including Murder in a Small Town, The Masked Singer, The Floor, and Animal Control, will remain in their streaming library.
“The long-standing, valued partnership we have with Fox has cemented Hulu as the next day streaming home for current Fox hits and out of season episodes of key Fox titles, and we’re excited to continue offering these scripted, unscripted and animated series to our subscribers,” said Hulu General Manager Lauren Tempest.
“Our collective marketing efforts, which will continue with this new deal, have generated impressive results and helped viewers successfully find the shows they want to watch, when they want to watch them.”
What the Deal Means For ‘The Simpsons’ and “Family Guy’
Perhaps most importantly, the new agreement means that 20th Television Animation series such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob’s Burgers will likely continue to air on Fox.
The animated programs have been a staple of Fox’s lineup, even after Disney acquired the properties as part of their purchase of 20th Century Fox. Now, it looks like Homer, Peter, and Bob are staying home.
