MickeyBlog News for November 25th, 2024
Disney just announced a new roller coaster and unveiled its latest cruise ship. This is an exciting week for MickeyBlog News.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring…
Let’s start with the shocking story of the week. Disney has confirmed that it will re-theme one of its most popular thrill rides.
In August, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith announced that he had to retire immediately.
The singer has suffered extensive damage to his vocal cords that is apparently beyond the point of repair.
Since 1999, Disney has licensed the band’s name and music for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith (RnR).
After just over a quarter-century later, Disney decided to end that agreement.
In place of Aerosmith, Imagineers will re-theme the roller coaster with a long-rumored replacement brand.
One day soon, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets (!!!) will debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Since Walt Disney Studios Park recently re-themed its own version of the coaster into Avengers Assemble: Flight Force, this marks the end of RnR as we know it.
On the Muppets front, we don’t know much yet, but the artist’s rendering is an absolute joy for fans of the crew.
The image shows Kermit and Miss Piggy riding along with members of Doctor Teeth and the Electric Mayhem on a concert-styled limousine.
In fact, Doctor Teeth’s keyboard doubles as the dashboard for the limo!
Also, the band somehow stacked Animal’s entire drum kit on the back of the vehicle.
Nobody’s quite sure how any of this will play out, but the implication is clear.
The new version of RnR will be fun, especially for Muppets fanatics.
Here’s hoping for a hardcore version of Rainbow Connection that will make us all bang our heads.
More Changes at Hollywood Studios
On a related note, Disney may dial back the aggressive elements at the coaster’s start to make it more family friendly. Or not.
I really have no idea here and am just speculating that the Muppets play younger.
Meanwhile, RnR currently has one of Disney’s most restrictive height requirements (48 inches) for a reason. So, something’s gotta give.
Speaking of which, something has given at Muppets Courtyard. MickeyBlog has mentioned a scary possibility since D23.
When Disney chose not to name a location for the upcoming Monstropolis themed land, we feared the worst.
Now, the other shoe has dropped, and it is, in fact, the worst.
Monstropolis will go into Muppets Courtyard. Sadly, this change dictates the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D in its current building.
The Disney Parks Blog stated that park officials hope to keep the show attraction, but it mentioned no specific plans.
That’s Disney’s way of stating that it has heard the pleas of fans and wants to do something.
At the moment, there are no good ideas on the table, though. So, we’re losing Muppets Courtyard as we know it in favor of Monstropolis.
On the bright side, some elements of the area like Miss Piggy’s Fountain could easily transition to a new spot near RnR.
I suspect that several decisions remain in flux here. So, stay tuned to MickeyBlog to learn more about what Disney has in store.
All Aboard the Disney Treasure!
MickeyBlog was among a select few who got to experience firsthand the splendor of the Disney Treasure.
Our staff showed you images of the gorgeous staterooms and suites on the crown jewel of Disney Cruise Line.
However, the rooms really only scratch the surface of what you’ll discover on Disney’s latest cruise ship.
Imagineers have stopped thinking of these vessels as boats. Nowadays, they’re Disney theme parks at sea.
Thus, Disney has infused all the gathering areas with beloved brands and intellectual properties.
Every store, restaurant, and lounge connects to one of your favorite Disney stories.
There’s Periscope Pub, based on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which brings the world of Jules Verge to life.
For more than a year now, Disney fans have anticipated Haunted Mansion Parlor, celebrating the iconic attraction.
Similarly, Jungle Cruise fans can hear some new puns at the Skipper Society Lounge.
You’ll even find a deeper cut on the ship, the Scat Cat Lounge, based on Disney’s The Aristocats. It’s a swinging joint for all the hep cats.
These touches are seemingly everywhere onboard, and Disney has even breathed new life into some existing ideas.
Worlds of Marvel returns on the Disney Treasure, but it features a new story Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix.
Disney did something shocking here by introducing an entirely new MCU superhero team, the Young Avengers, during the meal!
Yes, that team is canon now in the MCU because of a brief appearance at Worlds of Marvel. How great is that?!
We also covered the new Coco show as well as the Moana stage show.
Seriously, you’ll never run out of things to do on the Disney Treasure. It’s the best thing DCL has ever done.
Disney Miscellany
In news of the unexpected, Disney updated Soarin’ this week, which is hilarious to me.
Just two weeks ago, I was onboard the ride and thinking that the final sequence had gone a bit stale.
As a reminder, the EPCOT version of the attraction ends at the park, which has changed mightily since Disney filmed Soarin’. It’s glaring.
Well, someone at Disney noticed, which explains why Disney has updated the finale. You can watch the new version here.
That’s not the only major change at the park, either. EPCOT is currently testing a Single Rider line at Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.
Presuming this option remains throughout the holiday season, it’ll do a nice job of reducing the attraction’s wait time, often the longest at EPCOT.
The other EPCOT news is that installation is underway for the holiday overlay at Living with the Land, which is always a crowd-pleaser.
Park officials also confirmed the 2025 lineup for DISNEY ON BROADWAY during the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts.
At Magic Kingdom, Disney provided exciting new details for the upcoming DVC Lounge at Frontierland.
Speaking of that park, Lightning Lane Premier Pass sold out for the first time.
The service is no longer available on some dates during Thanksgiving Week.
Despite its success, Disney modified the service slightly by lowering the floor pricing and expanding the list of hotels where you can buy it.
Disney Miscellany Part II
Another Magic Kingdom tidbit involves Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, which has sold out every November date.
December is quickly selling out as well. So, you should act fast if you intend to attend this year’s party!
You should speak with a MickeyTravels agent today to give yourself the best chance of booking a reservation.

Elsewhere at Walt Disney World, Disney’s Blizzard Beach has engaged in a bit of irony this week.
The winter-themed water park has closed for multiple days due to cold weather.
Finally, Walt Disney Imagineering enjoyed a good week. Disney took home three THEA Awards, all of which were impressive.
The THEAs lauded Fantasy Springs at Disney TokyoSea, Zootopia at Shanghai Disneyland, and the roaming BDX Droids at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
