BREAKING: Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith to Get a Muppets Re-Theme in Hollywood Studios
When Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro announced that a new Monsters, Inc. land was coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios at D23: The Ultimate Fan event, the news was initially met with excitement.
Notably, however, Disney did not announce where the new land would be constructed in the park. While many fans hoped that Disney would re-purpose the often-forgotten Animation Courtyard, Muppet fans quickly began to worry about the future of Muppet Courtyard and Muppet*Vision 3D.

After months of waiting in limbo, today, the other shoe dropped, and Disney announced that the new Monsters, Inc. land will, in fact, replace Muppet Courtyard.
The Muppets Are Coming to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
While the news was largely expected, Disney threw a wrinkle in the announcement by revealing that, in conjunction with the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D, Kermit, Fozzie, and Miss Piggy are moving right along to Sunset Boulevard.
In what can only be described as a bombshell, Disney announced today that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will be re-themed to a Muppet attraction.
“The Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival,” Disney revealed on the Parks Blog.
The Long-Rumored Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Re-Theme Has Arrived
While it has long been rumored that Disney would re-theme Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, perhaps to a different musical artist or band, the Muppets re-theme is surprising.
In the end, it looks like the company felt they could soften the blow of closing Muppet*Vision 3D while also updating an attraction that was arguably long overdue for a new theme.
According to Disney, the integration of the Muppets into Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will include plenty of laughter, screams, and new tunes for fans to enjoy. It will also be supported by plenty of new Muppets merchandise!
When Will the Attraction Close?
Disney has yet to announce when Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and Muppet*Vision 3D will close. For now, Disney is telling fans that they still have time to enjoy both attractions in their current state.
