ESPN’s ‘Around the Horn’ Is Ending After 23 Years
In what can only be described as a bombshell, the New York Post’s Ryan Glasspiegel reports that ESPN plans to cancel Around the Horn next year.
Since debuting on November 4, 2022, Around the Horn has been a staple of ESPN’s afternoon programming block. Airing weekdays at 5:00 PM ET, the show brings together a panel of sportswriters and personalities to discuss the day’s topics.
When Around the Horn originally debuted, it featured debates between popular sportswriters from different regions of the United States. Hosted by Max Kellerman, the show would make stars of writers T.J. Simers, Bill Plashke, Woody Paige, Jay Mariotti, Tim Cowlishaw, J.A. Adande, and Jackie MacMullan.

For those of us of a certain age, watching Around the Horn after school quickly became a daily tradition.
The Show Evolved Over the Years
Over the years, the show’s format changed, and its panel expanded. New faces, including Elle Duncan, Bill Barnwell, Frank Isola, Israel Gutierrez, Mina Kimes, Pablo S. Torre, and Bomani Jones, became regulars. Tony Reali replaced Kellerman as the show’s host in 2004 and has remained in that role for the past twenty years.

Now, it looks like Around the Horn’s historic run is ending.
What’s Next For ESPN
With the announcement that ESPN may axe the show, numerous questions have arisen.
The most obvious question is what happens to Tony Reali. Long considered one of ESPN’s brightest stars, the host has previously expanded his horizons, working at Good Morning America for four years.

The cancellation of Around the Horn also casts a shadow over ESPN’s afternoon programming block. The show and Pardon the Interruption (PTI) have anchored the Worldwide Leader in Sports for over two decades.

It remains unclear whether the end of Around the Horn will affect the future of PTI. However, what is clear is that the network’s plans for its afternoon slots remain uncertain for the first time in decades.
