North Carolina Man Is Heading to Disney World After Winning $1 Million Lottery
A North Carolina man is living out every Disney fan’s dream after winning a $1 million prize in the lottery.
James Vandling of Mebane, North Carolina, is celebrating after hitting the jackpot with a $50 scratch-off lottery ticket.
Vandling bought the lucky ticket from Hawfield General Story in Mebane, where he originally stopped for a different reason.

“My nephew wanted a Gatorade so we stopped,” Vandling recalled to the North Carolina Education Lottery.
A Lucky Streak and a Big Decision
Vandling initially bought a $10 Million Spectacular scratch-off ticket and won $500. Riding high after the win, he decided to press his luck again.
“Go big or go home,” Vandling said, grinning.

Late last week, Vandling arrived at the North Carolina Lottery headquarters with a decision to make. Per lottery rules, he could receive a $50,000 annual payment for 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000.

Vandling chose the annual payment and received his first check for $50,000. After taxes, that meant he took home $35,764.
Vandling Is Heading to Disney World!
With his first payment in hand, Vandling knows what he is going to do next.

“I’m going to take my kids and grandkids to Disney World. We’ve never done that before,” he explained. “I kept telling people I was going to win big one day.”
