Get Ready For the Holiday Season With ‘An Almost Christmas Story’ on Disney+
Disney+ is ringing in the holiday season with the release of An Almost Christmas Story, a charming new holiday short.
Inspired by the true events of a tiny owl rescued from the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree in 2020, An Almost Christmas Story follows Moon, a curious young owl who finds himself trapped in a Christmas tree destined for New York City.

“In his attempts to escape the bustling city, Moon befriends a lost little girl named Luna. Together, they embark on a heartwarming adventure, discovering the magic of the holiday season and forming an unlikely bond as they journey back home to their parents,” the short’s synopsis reads.
The Final Installment in Alfonso Cuarón’s Holiday Collection
The third and final installment in Alfonso Cuarón’s collection of holiday shorts, An Almost Christmas Story is the first to be animated.

The star-studded cast that includes Cary Christopher, Estella Madrigal, Jim Gaffigan, Mamoudou Athie, Alex Ross Perry, Phil Rosenthal, and Natasha Lyonne. John C. Reilly also stars in the film as The Folk Singer, performing four songs. Two of the songs are originals!
The short was directed by David Lowery and produced by Cuarón and Gabriela Rodriguez. Jack Thorne (story and screenplay), Nicholas Ashe Bateman (creative design supervisor), and Daniel Hart (composer) are also credited on the film.
The Short Is Streaming Now
So far, fans and critics alike have lauded An Almost Christmas Story.
The first two entries in Cuarón’s holiday collection, 2022’s Le Pupille and 2023’s The Shepard, both earned Oscar nominations. It looks like the producer could go three for three.
