WATCH: The Final Trailer For ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ Has Arrived
Lion King fans will get the opportunity to return to Pride Rock later this year when Mufasa: The Lion King hits theaters on December 20.
The second film in the live-action Lion King franchise, Mufasa will serve as a prequel to the original film and explore the backstory of Simba’s father.
The story will be relayed by Rafiki, who tells Kiara about her family history. Timon and Pumbaa are also on hand to chime in.

“What does this young lion look like before he is who we know him as, and he is discovering his rhythm, how he conducts himself, how he engages with his community and his loved ones,” the film’s synopsis reads.
The Final Trailer Has Arrived
With just over a month to go until the movie hits theaters, Disney has released the final trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King, which sheds more insight into the titular lion’s story.
“The story is about a prince who would come to be known as Scar and an orphan named Mufasa. Two brothers who set off on a dangerous journey to find a new home and a new family,” Rafiki explains in the clip.

The action then cuts to the moment that Mufasa and Taka (Scar) meet Sarabi. The lioness is lost in the jungle and trying to find her pride. As it turns out, however, she also has her loyal scout Zazu with her.
As the group sets out on an adventure, they are joined by Rafiki.
“You expect us to follow this hallucinating baboon?” Sarabi asks.
From there, Mufasa sets out with his friends to forge a new kingdom.
