‘Moana 2’ Is Tracking Toward a Record-Setting Opening
Just one day after AMC CEO Adam Arman speculated that Moana 2 could surpass even Inside Out 2‘s historic box office haul, Disney got some more good news.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming Moana sequel is now tracking towards a $125-$135 million five-day opening. Should Moana 2 reach those heights, it would deliver the biggest opening ever for a Thanksgiving opening. That record is currently held by Frozen II, which holds the record with $125 million in ticket sales.

The first Moana film, which was also released over Thanksgiving, brought in $82.1 million.
The Film Is Off to a Hot Start
Today’s estimates easily eclipse the $100 million opening that Moana 2 was initially tracking toward. Such a jump would seem to indicate that anticipation for the upcoming film is only growing.
If the early tracking numbers for Moana 2 hold, and the film scores well with critics and fans, there is a real possibility that Moana could overtake Inside Out 2.

So far, the Moana 2 trailer has set records with 178 million views in its first 24 hours, and the film has delivered historic first-day ticket sales.
What Fans Can Expect From Moana 2
Set three years after the events of the first Moana movie, the upcoming film will follow the young Wayfinder as she heads out to reconnect with the people of Oceania.

“Before Maui stole Te Fitit’s heart, our ancestors wanted to connect our island to all the people of the entire ocean. It’s my job as a Wayfinder to finish what they started,” Moana explains in the film’s first trailer.

Building on the historic releases of Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, Disney will look to keep the good times rolling when Moana 2 hits theatres on November 27.
