The CEO of AMC Says ‘Moana 2’ Could Be a Bigger Hit Than ‘Inside Out 2’
After a difficult 2023 that saw films such as Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Wish, and The Marvels bomb at the box office, Disney has made a triumphant comeback this year.
Spurred on by the historic releases of Inside Out 2 (now the highest-grossing animated film of all time) and Deadpool & Wolverine (now the highest-grossing R-rated film ever), Disney has returned to box office dominance in 2024.

While many studios would be happy to rest on their laurels after producing two blockbusters in a single year, Disney will look to keep its hot streak going when Moana 2 opens in theaters on November 27.
Here Comes ‘Moana 2’
Set three years after the first Moana film, Moana 2 will see the titular heroine set out to reconnect the people of Oceania. The film has already set records with its strong first-day ticket sales, while its trailer racked up hundreds of millions of views. Needless to say, anticipation is high.
With just three weeks to go until the film finally hits theaters, AMC CEO Adam Aron told investors that Disney could have another record-breaking film on its hands.
“Some people in the know are telling me that ‘Moana 2’ could eclipse and outshine even the success of ‘Inside Out 2,’” Aron announced.
How High Will ‘Moana 2’ Climb?
As previously noted, Inside Out 2 shattered records earlier this year, dominating the box office and becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time.

When the dust settled, the Pixar blockbuster had earned $1.673 billion at the box office, including a domestic haul of $652.9 million. The latter number also makes Inside Out 2 the year’s highest-grossing film stateside.
Early tracking for Moana 2 shows that the film is trending toward a $100 million opening, which would easily surpass the first Moana film. If the sequel can get off to a hot start, word of mouth and strong critical reviews could propel it forward.

The current record for a five-day Thanksgiving opening is $125 million. That title is held by 2019’s Frozen 2.
Moana 2 will sail into theaters on November 23.
