Disney Creates New Artificial Intelligence and Mixed Reality Division
Early last week, we brought you the news that The Wrap was reporting that Disney was set to announce a “major AI initiative that will transform its creative output.”
At the time, it was reported that the initiative was set to involve “hundreds” of people and primarily focus on post-production and visual effects.

Now, a new report from Reuters has shed some more light on Disney’s plans. The company is now set to launch the Office of Technology Enablement, which will be led by Jamie Voris.
Office of Technology Enablement
The new division will coordinate the company’s utilization of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and augmented reality. Disney will reportedly look to implement these technologies across its entertainment and experiences division.
“The pace and scope of the advances in AI and XR (extended reality) are profound and will continue to impact consumer experiences, creative endeavors and our businesses for years to come – making it critical that Disney explore the exciting opportunities and navigate the potential risks,” Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman wrote.

“The creation of this group underscores our dedication to doing that.”
How Will Disney Implement the Technologies?
With Kyle Laughlin back at Walt Disney Imagineering and a new division leading the way, it looks like Disney is ready to dive headfirst into both artificial intelligence and, perhaps more importantly, mixed reality.

While the former would likely impact Disney’s films and movies, the latter will certainly have applications in the parks.
