Introducing Theo — the Baby Okapi Born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
While Disney’s Animal Kingdom is known for its immersive environments, breathtaking attractions, and world-class cuisine, anyone who has ever visited the park knows that the real stars are the animals.
From the educational exhibits at Rafiki’s Planet Watch to the majestic encounters on Kilimanjaro Safaris, Disney’s Animal Kingdom brings the natural world to guests’ fingertips. Perhaps the best way to immerse yourself with animals from around the world, however, is to stay at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge!
With that in mind, I am thrilled to announce that Animal Kingdom recently welcomed a new member to its wild family when Theo, a baby okapi, was born!

Dr. Mark Penning took to Instagram this morning to share the exciting news that a baby okapi was born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge in June.

This fall, Theo has been exploring the Pembe savanna with his mom, Olivia.
As you can see, Theo and his mom even had some Halloween fun!
An Important Moment For Conservation
Known as the “ghost of the forest,” okapi were not discovered by the Western world until 1901! The animal remains endangered, making Theo’s birth an important contribution to okapi conservation efforts.
So, next time you visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, stop by the savanna and say hi! You can also spot okapi on the Kilimanjaro Safaris!
