REVIEW: NEW Menu Items at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant in Disney’s Hollywood Studios!
There is SO much great food to experience when visiting Disney World, it can be hard to decide where to spend your time and money. But we’re here to help!
We check out all of the restaurants to give you full reviews and help you make your dining decisions for your upcoming vacations!
Disney announced recently that some new menu items would be coming to a couple of Hollywood Studios restaurants, so we’re going to check one out! Let’s head over to Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant.
New Food at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant
Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater is located in the Commissary Lane section of Hollywood Studios. It’s a table service restaurant that serves lunch and dinner, and we recommend having a reservation if you want to eat here!
Inside the Restaurant
Sci-Fi Dine-In is a 50s-style drive-in theater where you can eat in a car-shaped booth and check out the sci-fi scenes playing on the big screen!
Some of the clips on screen include aliens, mummies, robots, and more! It can be a bit creepy, but nothing too chilling.
The dining room is a Hollywood-style soundstage filled with vintage memorabilia and old-timey cars that are actually the tables you eat at.
If you don’t want to eat inside on of the car booths, you can check out the picnic tables at the back of the theater near the old-fashioned concession stand.
After you check in at the restaurant, the host will say “now parking” when it’s time for you to go to your table and lead you down the set hallway to the drive-in! They will tell you to watch for oncoming traffic as you round the corner.
You can be seated with other parties — we were and were seated all together in a car in separate rows, but you’re all waited on at the same time by your car hop, AKA your server!
Menu
Let’s take a look at the menu!
There are two new appetizers on the menu, which are the Mini Corn Dogs and the Wedge Salad.
There are also two new entrees, the Beamed-up Burger and the Prime Rib Sandwich.
For desserts, you can get things like a Cookie Shake or a Hot Fudge Sundae.
There are some good options for kids, too! They can choose between a Garden Salad, Galactic Pudding, and Chicken Noodle Soup for appetizers…
…and things like Chicken Bites, a Cheeseburger, and Macaroni & Cheese for entrees.
The sides for kids include Mashed Potatoes, Corn on the Cob, Fruit Salad, and more. There is also the kids’ specialty drink, the Specialty Character Drink.
Non-alcoholic beverages include The Meteor and a few different kinds of Milk Shakes.
For alcoholic drinks, there’s wines & sangria…
…Cosmic Concoctions…
…and beer and hard ciders.
Now, let’s eat some food!
Food & Drinks
We started out with the new Mini Corn Dogs. These are fried mini corn dogs served with your choice of dipping sauces for $13. We picked the Sci-Fi sauce and honey mustard.
The Sci-Fi sauce is mayo, ketchup, salt, and pepper. The other dipping option is ranch and regular mustard and ketchup are available on every table.
We thought this was a great sharable appetizer! It’s nothing exceptional or unique, but they are tasty.
They’re crisp and lightly battered — they’re very similar to the ones at Casey’s Corner in Magic Kingdom, but these seemed prepared a bit better. The sauces are good as well but nothing special, the Sci-Fi sauce is similar to a Canes sauce.
Next, we got the new Beamed-up Burger. This is two-pressed signature-blend patties, American cheese, shredded lettuce, jalapeño-bourbon-bacon jam, and house-made burger sauce served on a brioche bun for $23.
This burger is delicious! You can taste the char from the grill on the patties and they’re very juicy and tender. All of the burgers are served medium.
The brioche bun is buttered and soft — it holds all of the toppings and the burger patties nicely, but we wouldn’t let it sit too long or we fear it might fall apart.
The jalapeño-bourbon-bacon jam is a great addition to the burger, you can taste the sweetness mixed with just a bit of heat. It’s the only thing keeping this from being a classic burger!
We do think it could use some crunch, texture, or another creative element that would pair well with the bacon jam. Maybe some crunchy onion straws would be good!
But, we do still think it’s a good burger. It comes with steak fries or your can get onion rings instead of an up-charge. The fries are not your traditional ones you find around the parks, they’re thick and seasoned well. Ours were crisp on the outside and soft in the center — we loved them!
Finally, we got a Milk Shake to wash everything down! We went with the Oreo Cookie flavor for $7.25.
The Milk Shake comes in a cute glass with a wide straw and a spoon. The shakes here are one of their signature things and your car hop will definitely mention it when you first sit down!
Unlike some of the quick-service places around Disney World, this one is made with real ice cream instead of a pre-made mixture. It’s absolutely amazing and easily shareable!
The shake is super creamy and there is a lot of vanilla flavor with a hint of Oreo. It’s a great way to finish your meal and they offer plant-based shakes here now too!
Overall Thoughts
Overall, we really love the ambiance of Sci-Fi! It’s super fun.
It’s dark and quiet inside so it really transports you away from the theme park and gives you a break from the crowds.
It is still traditional food like burgers and fries, but they’re elevated here compared to the quick service spots in the parks. We would definitely eat here again!
We also got a “drivers license” from our very kind server! They mentioned they don’t really hand them out, so you will have to ask your server and don’t be surprised if they’re unable to give you one.
Stay tuned for more Disney World news and updates!
