Despite the Latest Setbacks, Daisy Ridley Remains Optimistic About Her ‘Star Wars’ Future
Following the news that Sharmeed Obaid-Chinoy’s upcoming Star Wars film had lost another screenwriter, fans began to worry about the project’s future.
Originally announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, the planned film will see Daisy Ridley reprise her role as Rey Skywalker.

Set 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, the film will follow Rey’s journey as she fulfills her promise to Luke Skywalker and rebuilds the Jedi Order.
Early Production Troubles
Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were initially to write the screenplay for the Rey Skywalker film, which fans have dubbed The New Jedi Order. However, in March of last year, the screenwriters left the project.

“The movie is still happening, but unfortunately, not with me,” Lindelof said. “I wish them all the best of luck. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is an incredible director, and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with.”
With Knight quickly signing on to write the film and Daisy Ridley hinting that production could begin as early as this year, fans remained optimistic about the New Jedi Order’s future.

Unfortunetly that optimsim was crushed earlier this week when it was announced that Knight had left the project. Over a year and a half after the film was initially announced, we are seemingly no closer to seeing Rey Skywalker on the big screen than when we started.
Daisy Ridley Isn’t Worried
Despite the recent setback, however, Daisy Ridley remains optimistic.
During a recent appearance on The Discourse podcast, Ridley was asked about the state of her Rey Skywalker film. When reminded that many fans had assumed that the film would hit theaters over Christmas 2026, Ridley was adamant that there was no set release date yet.

“We don’t have a date,” she said. “I think the creative process is one that is really a journey.”
Despite the perceived setbacks, Ridley explained that Lucasfilm is committed to getting the film right. She also shared her continued excitement about her next Star Wars adventure.
“And I’m really genuinely excited. I have said I’m very excited, but I really do mean I’m excited about what’s coming. And I think we really have the luxury of making sure that this is the right,” she explained.

“So when everything is ready to go, we will be going, and it’s very—yeah, it’s good.”
What Is the Plan?
While nothing has been confirmed yet, it sounds like James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi film will leapfrog New Jedi Order and perhaps hit theaters in December 2026.

For now, however, we will have to wait and see.
