The Sanderson Sisters Make a Splash as ‘Hocus Pocus’ Returns to Theaters
Hot on the heels of Disney’s successful theatrical re-release of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, Hocus Pocus managed to whip up some Halloween magic of its own this weekend.
Screened in nearly 1,500 theaters this weekend, grossing $841,000 this weekend, bringing the film’s lifetime gross to $50.2 million.
Hocus Pocus got out to a strong start on Friday, bringing in $287,000 as fans flocked to celebrate spooky season with the Sanderson Sisters.
Another Successful Re-Release
Disney’s strategy of re-releasing its most popular Halloween films to theaters this October seems to be paying off handsomely.
Last week, during its return to theaters, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas added another $2.3 million to its box office total. This week, the film delivered another $1.129 million.
Earlier this year, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace also topped the box office upon its return to theaters. With minimal additional costs, Disney has racked up the dollars with its re-releases this year.
‘Hocus Pocus’ Continues to Dazzle
Like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Hocus Pocus has become a Halloween tradition for generations of fans, who jumped at the opportunity to see the film in theaters.
Hocus Pocus has taken a prominent role in Disney’s Halloween festivities in recent years. Most noteably, Disney ressurected the franchise for 2022’s Hocus Pocus 2.
The film has featured prominently in Disney+ advertising this season, and the Sanderson Sisters have had a major presence in Walt Disney World and Disneyland’s Halloween festivities.
Hocus Pocus is streaming now on Disney+.
