Imagineering Files a New Permit For ‘The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure’ Sign Installation
Yesterday, we received disappointing news that The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure would not open this year at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as initially anticipated.
Originally announced in December 2023, the new show promises to be a fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by The Little Mermaid. When it opens, it will feature stunning new set pieces, cutting-edge effects, and some very impressive puppets.

Ariel’s fans were understandably excited as Voyage of the Little Mermaid never reopened following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Show’s Opening Has Been Delayed
Yesterday, however, Disney shared the bad news that the show would not be ready this fall.
“As we continue to look forward to ‘The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure’ at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we are taking the next steps and filing permits for an all-new marquee,” Disney stated.

“Work on the exterior of the building will begin soon, in preparation for the premiere of this fully reimagined show in summer 2025. We look forward to sharing more details on this exciting new experience soon.”
Imagineering Files a New Permit
True to their word, Disney has already filed the first permits for the building’s marquee.
Today, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a Notice of Commencement Permit for sign installation.
Though the permit does not provide much information, it does reveal that Design Communications Ltd. will be tasked with creating the new custom marquee.
As Voyage of the Little Mermaid had one of the most recognizable entrance signs at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the team will have their work cut out for them.
Work Should Begin Soon
With the project delayed until 2025, it is good to see that Disney is not wasting time. Hopefully, we will see work on The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure theater begin soon!
